Lately, Iโ€™ve found myself in places I wouldnโ€™t usually associate with business,

๐Ÿ“Œan art display in Wendover Woods,
๐Ÿ“Œnetworking in a theatre and a disco by @Collaborate MK,
๐Ÿ“Œand a community event bringing women together for open conversations and expert insights on menopause, hosted by Ches & Co.

Each space drew completely different people, energy, and conversations. It made me wonder, businesses are getting creative in ๐’‰๐’๐’˜ they connect, but how often do leaders truly ๐’…

Because diversification isnโ€™t just about trying new formats, itโ€™s about ๐’”๐’•๐’“๐’†๐’•๐’„๐’‰๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’‰๐’๐’˜ ๐’š๐’๐’– ๐’•๐’‰๐’Š๐’๐’Œ, ๐’๐’†๐’‚๐’…, ๐’‚๐’๐’…

Itโ€™s about stepping beyond familiar logic and comfort zones to see what might be missing in your leadership lens.

Here are three reflections to deepen that practice:

๐Ÿ. Itโ€™s easy to surround ourselves with familiar thinkers, people who validate our views or operate within our comfort zone. True diversification begins when we deliberately seek perspectives that unsettle us. Listen to those who see the world through a completely different frame. The aim isnโ€™t agreement, but awareness. What new possibilities emerge when you allow your certainty to be challenged?

๐Ÿ. Leaders often move fast, solving, deciding, driving outcomes. Yet diversification also means exploring different rhythms. Pausing before reacting. Creating space for reflection, even when the pressure builds. Some of the most transformative insights appear not in motion, but in stillness. How often do you slow down long enough to notice them?

๐Ÿ‘. Success can easily become a narrow pursuit, targets, outcomes, visibility. But what if success also meant developing the courage to unlearn? To lead from curiosity, not control. To measure growth by how much youโ€™ve stretched, not how much youโ€™ve achieved. Diversification here means expanding what โ€˜winningโ€™ truly looks like for you and your team.

We live in times that reward agility, but real diversification is an act of courage, the willingness to think differently before doing differently.

Last weekend I attended a comedy show. The main act was the brilliant Simon John Evans, polished, experienced, and very much in his element.

But what struck me most was Jeremy James Blake, who agreed just two days before to step in as compere after the original cancelled. Hosting wasnโ€™t his profession, nor something he usually does. Yet he carried the audience with humour, confidence, and composure. The evening flowed, the audience was engaged, and the transition was seamless.

It made me think about business leadership. We admire experts like Simon, who bring mastery honed over years. But organisations also need leaders who can ๐’”๐’•๐’†๐’‘ ๐’‡๐’๐’“๐’˜๐’‚๐’“๐’…

Three takeaways stood out:

๐Ÿ. The moments that define leaders often arenโ€™t the ones in the job description, but the unexpected gaps where youโ€™re asked to step in.

๐Ÿ. Clear communication, presence, and empathy are leadership currencies that transfer across any situation, especially when time is short.

๐Ÿ‘. When you can stand up, improvise, and hold the room, you send a signal of stability that cascades through your team and organisation.

As leaders, weโ€™re remembered less for the times we delivered on a well-rehearsed script and more for how we responded when circumstances shifted.
